ASP plugin/template portal project... ISO dev opinions
Here is the imaginary end goal/ideas of the site....
- Standard core fileset that will allow ASP developers to create any plugin they wish (plugin being defined as *any* piece of functionality, from pure content display / CMS, to calendars, to security, to DB access, to shopping carts, to menu's, etc. etc. etc.), and web designers to create templates that can simply be downloaded, and thrown into a folder structure to use. - Completely open source, and free to download / customize the core asptree files. - Thousands of templates and plugins available for download on multiple sites (one may be yours eventually), of which were built by any/all ASP devs who have the time to build them within the asptree set of standards (not yet available, but getting close) - End users being able to simply choose templates and plugins, download them, move into a folder, and simply add content to create a complete professional and functioning website... with only basic configuration required. Remember, the above statements are just the fictional "hopes", in reality we are maybe 50% done with the core structure. Now for anyone that can imagine that end goal, here is the link to the site currently in progress... http://www.asptree.com I am looking for any feedback at all about about the idea or about the site, so that I can make sure this stays on the right path. Thanks a bunch! Also, if you would like to be put on an email list for the latest info, please post or PM me. |

I love the idea of what you are aiming for here. It sounds like you have a creative team put together. Good luck and I'll check back around that July 29th date.
On another note, I like the feature you have to change the theme of the site (my vote is for ms_sexy, but unforturnatly for a professional site, it might have to go OR if you require registration just make it a theme available to registered members).* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Vote for your favorite Search Engine in this Poll located over at the free lounge: http://forums.aspfree.com/t31038/s.html |

lmao, thats almost word for word what I told another developer on this ;p
As for right now, this is still early on the project so were are still having fun with it, and going to keep it that way as long as we can. There are potentially both professional and personal uses for this tool when its done, but not going to gear it torwards one or the other... (although I would highly recommend categorizing templates at the very least if they are viewed on a website like this). As for now, and template that we get in will go up for testing purposes (as long as it doesn't contain anything vulgar or have nudity, etc., the ms_sexy one is close, but not quite ;p) ... The more there are for display, the more people will realize how easy switching templates could be for them in the future... as simple as downloading the template file into a directory, and selecting it from a dropdown like you just did on the site ![]() Once this gets closer to the end, I will make sure to make things as professional as possible. Thanks for the reply, and glad you think the idea is worthwhile. Edit: On a side note, as for the themes themselves, although we will have our own available on the site, we will be releasing the developers API in a way so people can make their own... this way strong template designers can have their own sites with downloads, and hopefully create an entire network of resources (same thing for "plugins" as well) |

Still not quite ready for release, but our artist just added a half dozen or so new templates to select from.
Programming continues almost daily, so newer stuff to check out all the time for any who are interested ![]() |
