my uni project - please check it out!!

hello all.

i am finishing my uni degree on thur :S and this is a project i have done to complete my degree. it is in php and mysql and i know this is an asp forum but i would still appreciate your views.

the link is

GlobalhotelMS

and it is an online hotel management system for guests to book online and then for the staff to manage the reservations and general day to day running of the hotel.

on the home page if you click hotels at the top you can start the reservation process. this would be good if you could do this as i need as many arrivals and departures in there as poss! especially onese starting or ending on thursday this week

also if you click the about link there is info on how to access the staff area.

thanks very much

any comments appreciated.

RF

Before I begin... would you like a critical review or a fairly neutral report?

I've received a few PMs informing me that my more critical reviews (search for "Webstandardsman reviews") were a bit harsh.

So now I ask you (politely) before I rip your site apart

i have designed a few sites and am always open to critical comments. that is how they get better. however i should say that this is due in on thur so maybe some encouragement would be good this time

i am more of a programmer than designer so i know the desgin is pretty standard for a css site.

not sure that answers your question but just please don't break it big time

thanks

Thumbs up

I'll be breif as don't have much time.
I like it. The layout is nice and simple. Which is good. I found the navigation of the site very easy and despite a couple of minutes probing I could only find 1 error :P
If you log onto staff, browse for a bit, then sign off, then go back a few pages without logging back on, its throws up this:

Code:
You have an error in your SQL syntax.
Check the manual that corresponds to your
MySQL server version for the right syntax to
use near 'AND (del_status = 'xx' OR del_status = 'xt') ORDER BY sent_at D

Certainly a sufficient site for a uni project in my opinion

The layout is OK.

What you want to do is add some content.

(a) The page entitled "Our Hotels" has an image, but I dont see the relevance. It has newspaper clipping headings in the oceans.

When you click on the london link, the page that opens up has a gap on the right hand side.

(b) Do you really need such long and complicated query strings. It makes search engines' work all that much harder with such long URL's. Be careful using so many session variables, you cant click back through those pages.

(c) I like the idea, but the results are not co-herent enough and after selection of a hotel and date, I have to refine the preferences further and provide a promotional code. I think you need the search function on the front page and only have one set of results.

Good luck with your site.

hi,

thanks very much for taking the time to test the project.

yeah i know it is lacking content, just haven't had time to add any yet been busy working onthe code and report

anyway i will try to add some today as the day unfolds!!

a) the image is there as my plan was to make one with clickable areas where there are hotels but i didn't get round to it but haven't removed the image so i can point out what i would have done if i had more time.

b) with it all being dynamic the query strings are as short as i have been able to make them :S i know they are long but....there is a lot toquery

c) well refining it is just so that the guest can specify the exact type of room they require! if it was all in one search i think it woul dbe toomuch at once!! just a matter of opinion i guess!!

thanks for the comments

RF
