I'm a newbie. Be specific. It's a consumer info site about the 4 hurricances that hit my home state this season. Helping folks dealing with Ins Claims, Adjusters, Storm Prep, Contractors, Etc... I hope to have a licensed and insured Contractor referral service and paid ads from home improvement stores, insurance agents, landscapers, contractors, building suppliers and manufacturer's, etc... in the near future, yet still remain very consumer oriented. I know I don't have my Contact Us form, meta tags, alt tags, page titles, and keywords done yet. I'll do that this week before submitting to engines of course. Let me know asthetics, layout, overall design, functionality, wording, navigation, page loads, your browser and monitor settings, ISP speed, anything you can think of. I need help with my server side CGI script. Hope I can find help on this site. :-) THANKS! Amy Last edited by turnkeybiznetwk : November 12th, 2004 at 08:51 AM. Reason: domain not in title |

I might suggest increasing the font size. The news text is way too small... Also, consider using stylesheets instead of the embedded font tags. (I know... all of this is behind the scenes... Real coders don't use Frontpage!
)Your top logo is a JPG file. It could be considerable smaller byte size in a GIF file. Also, it is kind of blurry... Consider rebuilding it. Run a spell check.... Disaster Preperation link is missppeelleedd... Looks like decent information. Good start. |

Thanks Kbogart
Thanks kbogart. I think I'll use a CSS since the whole thing is in Veranda. I noticed the Preparation right after I sent this. Oops! Thanks. Can't believe I did that! I know. I know. I'll get Dreamweaver and learn html. I never claimed to be a real coder. Just know enough to get by and get my business up on the net for now. he!he! I'll learn. You're right about the top logo. I'll change that. Thanks. I'll rebuild it. Thanks. Amy

my notes on your website in addition to kbogart's:
for SEO (search engine optimization), unless you don't want anybody to find your website, you should: create a keyword-related title, instead of just "home", write more keyword-aware content, and your "links" page needs re-organization. Your google pagerank is still 0, which tells me that your website is new (not more than a month old) The information are immense and the website has a great potential. |

ooops, I didn't read your thread carefully, so since you are already aware of the seo things to do, i withdraw my comments, LOL.
I went to the contact us page, and there was [FrontPage Save Results Component] at the left, with an empty drop down menu and a form. I think it should be removed or fixed. If i find anything else i'll tell you |

Definitely get up to speed on some CSS. Your site could benefit by making it both more attractive and professional looking. Copy a weather site for starters, weather. com even. Great way to learn!

Thanks. I will definetly be adding the keywords, alt tags, and meta tags, etc.. for SEO of course, which you saw in my post later. Gotta get to that today or tomorrow. It's hard to decide what all to put in the meta tags. (What words people would be searching under, etc...) The titles will be easy but the other stuff is going to be a pain. I am trying to do as much reading on the subject before I start so I don't have to re-do it. And the site is under a month old. It's a week old and not really finished. I haven't submitted to search engines yet, until I do the latter and fix my Contact Us page. I don't know what's up with my Contact Us page. Front Page Ext's are on at host, but there's error on the left below the menu and again after sumbit. I can't wait until I really learn more html so I can quit using Front Page. It's just a start for me. I'll find or make a CSS with Veranda, mouseover, blue links, maroon visited, and that will clean up the code and make it quicker for me to make new pages too. I kept thinking that when I made the pages but never stopped long enough to do it. What did you mean about the copying a weather site? I organized the Links page according to how I thought they should be seperated. The top six links actually take you to other pages within my site with a full page of more links about that topic, then below are more links, seperated as best as I could see fit. How else would you suggest? If anyone comes across any further suggestions, please do let me know. I really appreciate and value your feedback. I have some other changes in ad copy and a few minor astetics that I am changing this week. What a project this has been. Whew! I hope visitors find the information useful and the site pleasing to the eye and easily navigated. As a previous construction business owner, specilaizing in the insurance industry, I truly want consumers to be educated about this different aspect of the construction process. Thanks for your input. Amy
