I personally believe that, while rep points are fun, I don't use them as a gauge of how helpful I've been. I come here for the same reason everyone else does, to help and be helped.
At the end of the day, the only reward that matters is knowing that someone will sleep easier that nite because they were able to make that website work the way their employer demanded that it work. I have had my share of sleepless nights and the members of this forum have helped me to get MY sleep on numerous occassions. I share what I know in order to return the favor. OK I'll step down off my soapbox now.

Well good point, With so mush rep power people can spread so much that everyone will have ALOT of rep. You are right it is too much points to give out, but It would be even harder to get rep that way.

Hey all,
First off, Thank You, I love this site and have recommended it to many people and will continue to recommend and use it for as long as its available. I think that we can look at this as two things: Since reputation power has already been used to the extent where we can jump up by numbers for one agreement and most reputation seems to be given because regulars are repping back forth on post or in rep fest and negative rep is rarely given unless someone is being uncool to another person or just flat out wrong. Not to mention newbs dont click the scales I propose that we keep the rep and i totally agree with adding some logic to make it harder to move up as your level increases (RPG style lol) and it will continue to serve as a "regulars notifier" to us and to let the newbs know (if they look) that they are dealing with a user that is "generally approved of" by this site's users. I also propose that we have an option that is a little more clear on the post (maybe right under signature) that says THANK THIS USER FOR A HELPFUL POST (1 Point per Thank You regardless of who clicks it), This would allow old posts that people search to be taken into consideration and could be done on a quarterly or monthly basis to keep users from getting too ahead of everyone else. We could then turn that into contest or even list the most helpful people and give them rewards such as Most Valuable Poster like the ones that are already there(like top 5 poster) or maybe we could send them a dollar and a dev shed t-shirt i dunno but I do think it is a good thing to recognize people that go out of there way to help others
