currently, for each 100 reputation points one get, he get one more
reputation power point. keeping it like this is going to lead to "reputation explosion" very soon, where with one comment, member can increase other member's power. compared to the alternatives of gaining reputation power (one full year of membership or 1000 posts) this way of gaining power is way beyond any reasonable limit. so, to make this more reasonable, I suggest here that reputation power point will be gained for each 1000 reputation points one have. this change will not harm the reputation system, and only slow the rate in which it is expanding. remember, that when it reach some "critical point" (e.g. everyone has 1000000 points) it become less attractive as whole. don't get me wrong, I am for the reputation system and would not like to discuss the necessity of the system itself or confront anyone.. just make it more reasonable and fun... ![]() |

We have heard this very argument across all of our forums - the thing about the reputation hack is its just for enjoyment/fun - so dont worry about the points and just have fun w it. j |

I agree, it started as some kind of measurement of how good you are, now we just use it for fun, so if you have a rep power of 1000 or 5, its all for fun in the end ![]()

Just to add to what Shadow was saying, to some members, the fun is in earning those points by helping other members. It goes both ways, so I'll just work with what we have ![]()

I know that I have been taking part in the recent rep fests, but I'll have to agree with Shadow.
If we have to be honest with ourselves: This forum's main purpose is to be of help for those seeking it at development level. Rep points is a indication of appreciation to those who waste their own time helping others. Think that they deserve to be respected for that, and that respect should not come cheap. I just personally think that the rep fests are being abused, and it might "damage" the forum in a way. I must add that, 90% of all the people taking part in the rep fests are also actively helping others in the rest of the forums, but lets get more control over those rep fests then. Would like to hear the other people's views on this topic...

Why dont you make it logarithic or something? I think its a bit silly that in order to get from level 50 to 51 takes the same amount of rep points as it does from 3 to 4.
Make it hard for guys with a lot of rep points to keep on increasing, and make it reasonably easy for guys with not so many - just like Google's PageRank algorithm. If you get the equation right the first time, then you dont have to worry about increasing these boundries that Shadow was talking about.

That is pretty reasonable thinking LozWare. I am just thinking, that pretty soon I'll get 2 rep points, or even more when someone click my scales. (If the person has 200+ rep points.) This is going to snowball, and we should not let it get to that point. Where will it end?!

(Admittedly, I should probably put something in my signature asking for rep points )Overall though, I'd say that those with the high rep points are those that deserve them, irrespective of any rep fests!! ![]() |
