Having read the whole thread just now
I've come to realize: Aren't the awards the same as the reputation system?
They are just like a game, meaningless to us regulars.
We all know who helps and who doesn't.

I honestly don't care for a silly award like that.
It's not like I'll be helping any less by not getting it.

JC is right in pointing that this can definitely encourage users to participate.

@JC: Is there any way we could see how the awards are calculated?
Although this won't satisfy everyone, at least we'd know how it's calculated.
