Don't allow Rep points to be given in Lounge
I feel that reputation power should be a measure of one's ability to help others with coding on these forums. Simply put, I don't feel much (any) of that goes on in the Lounge. To put reputation power back on track, cant we disallow giving reputation in the lounge? I'm saying this about 20 days before my birthday, so I'm serious, lol.

We've suggested this many many times over at DS, and the general
concensus is that it will make no difference. Rep will still be abused. If you don't want to give people rep in the Lounge, give them 0 pts with your agree/disagree.

The admins care about having members..
They would be insane if they weren't! Nobody is working for the soul of his mother! So, all these rep, belt "prizes" are for bringing new members and keep the old ones of course! So, why should they do that you are suggesting? Why do you think you gain belts only with the number of your posts? With that logic, gaining belts should be based on how helpful you are and not on how many posts you have.. No, that's not business! Ok, I know that it's not feel right me for example to have the same or more points than a helpful member but this is just a game and a very smart tactic of the admins to keep us busy in their forums. That's the aim (and that should be the aim!) ![]()

Besides, I'll never have the pleasure to take a comment like that!
to Memnoch by a new member: Quote:
It's a 0 points agreement but it worths a thousand! So, everyone who deserves it, gets the approval with many and much better ways than the rep points which I insist that is just a nice game Last edited by Dragon Rider : September 19th, 2005 at 04:40 AM. |

the only true way of knowing who is the most helpful on the forum is buy experiencing it for yourself!
I post help whenever i can but not being hugely clever in asp etc i find it more difficult but i am learning and hopefully oneday i will have enough knowledge to help much more. In the mean time it is a nice atmosphere here and i enjoy hanging around and chatting to people as well as periodically asking for help myself! DR is right!

I agree with every comment made in here so far. I understand what bbd is getting at and he is right. DR is also correct, though. The rep system, the belt system, and all the fun that goes along with it, makes an awesome atmosphere for all of us to be in. That's one reason why ASP Free forums is the only forum I belong to now. The other reason is the help. We all know who the top dogs are here. They've been using their incredible knowledge here since before I joined. They are the ones who kept me here because of their vast knowledge and teaching capabilities plus the fact that most of them actually want to help you understand why and how it works. So yea, I'm sure everybody who's been here at least a few weeks knows who the champs are here. But the way rep points and belts is acheived helps the rest of us who don't know the answer to every question feel important because we, too, have some good knowledge as well. Just not as much as Memnoch for example, lol.
Let's just keep things the way it is for now, because I'm still a Yellow Belt!!!! ![]() The End JMH Edit: Besides, it kind of points out the senior members, you know, those of us who have been dedicated members to the forums. We need some recognition too! ![]()
