Sticky Posts
And yet another request on the list
![]() Currently, we have "Sticky" threads. What if we were able to make a post sticky? What I mean is, The first post in each thread would automatically display at the top of every page in the thread. The benefits? Sometimes threads get so long that new people trying to assist have to keep switching back from the first page to the last page to get a synopsis on what is going on. This would make it as simple as scrolling up. Whaddya think? ![]()

At first, the thought sounds appealing, but then I think of all the original posts I've seen where the person includes all his or her code for a whole application, and I think of having to scroll through all that on each successive page of the thread ... not too appetizing.

What if anything between

tags could be hidden by default and then use some JavaScript to unhide it if desired? |

Most of the time when the post size is long like Don was saying, it's because the OP didn't use code tags....

Indeed, in which case most moderators would have edited the post anyway and fixed it. ![]() |

It is Visit this thread at Vbulletin.orghttp://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=131945 This is their VBulletin modifications section. Notice how the modification "summary" is listed at the top of every page in the thread. I would assume it's just a post that is made "sticky". That very mod is available somewhere on the site, would just have to find it ![]() ::EDIT:: Another thing to note is that vBulletin stores the first post id in the "threads" table. So it would really be a simple query to grab the first post for the thread and place on each page ![]() Last edited by jmurrayhead : December 11th, 2007 at 08:24 AM. |

I personally wouldn't bother, a fair share of the first posts i've seen in the forum are not explained well. Problem is most of the information that is essential to the resolution of the thread isn't given until someone asks. And thats usually a few replies in and a big reason why the page count increases.
The point being, questions that are asked clearly in the first place are usually resolved in one page. The ones which are not are often the opposite. I think it will be a whole lotta work for very little return. Just my opinion. Last edited by AOG123 : December 12th, 2007 at 06:25 AM. |
