Capture com port data
I am trying to write a program to replace a DOS program which downloads and uploads data to a GPS receiver. I have asked the manufacturer for the protocols but have not had any reply yet. Probably because this model is no longer supported.
I would like to run the DOS program under WIN98 and capture the data transfers so that I can try to work out the protocols I need. Has anyone got any ideas how this could be done? |

I got around this one by making a null modem cable and connecting comm1 to comm2 on my computer.
Next I wrote a small program to capture data on comm2 when the DOS program is run on comm1. Extra functions were added to the utility program to send the captured data to the device and capture it's response and so on. It is a tedious process involving much plugging and unplugging of cables (a third serial port might be in order) but it works. |
