General VB Question
I have noticed on a lot of ASP Forums that most people use ASP with VB to code for their websites.
is the VB to make the scripts? If so, do you have to buy expensive software to code VB? Most people on the forums all agree this is the best way to build websites. Just a thought. Thanks, Jason |

Hi Jason,
when you use ASP, you can choose between Javascript and VBScript, but most people tend to use VBScript, also notice, its VBScript not VB, so you dont have to pay for it.

Ah Sweet.
I will look for that then. PS if it's VBScript, is it covered in this forum? Thanks, again. Jason Quote:

Awesome, any tips on where I can get an editor with help files?
I looked in MSDN library, but once it installed, I can't find the actual editor. Thanks again, Jason |

well, you can use any text based editor, its up to you,
have a look at www.w3schools.com to get you started with tutorials and so on. I use programmers notepad to code asp in, but some ppl use dreamveawer and there are other editors also available. hope this helps |

Microsoft has all the documentation online, look around http://msdn.microsoft.com/library particularly the web development section.

I think the name of the editor I used for my ASP stuff was called EditPlus...it is pretty good for all this type of stuff. It knows syntax, reserved words, etc and you tell it what kind of project you are making, eg VBScript, JavaScript, and it then knows which set of keywords to monitor...
I am sure it isn't free, but it is probably a low cost option with a lot of features you'll find handy. |
