Cool Protocol thru vb

i have to write a vb app to talk to a industrial weigh scale. I will be talking RS-232 to the scale. i am just wondering if anybody out there has wrote an app to talk to "something" via RS-232. i have a break out of the protocol that the scale uses, but this looks like it could be really complicated!! is this really hard or is there some active x object or something i don't know about?? Or is this really easy?

thanks

You may need to use some of Microsoft CIM Classes. CIM_Controller is the one you may need at least. Please do a search at Microsoft web site.
