Reading from one database and writing to another

Hi,
I have task of extracting data from one SQL database and using this data to update a second database after doing some work on the data to make it fit in to the second database, I am thinking of using VB.net, but I am not sure if I can open 2 databases in the same time and read from one and write to the other, and the best way to do it, as you see any help is appreciated

There is no problem with two db connections in one piece of code.
