sending mail with attachment using winsock

Hi friends,
I am using winsock control to send mail along with attachment. I got some code from net which encodes the attachment and send it along with msg body. SO when the mail is received the attachement symbol is not seen in the inbox.
Sometime i am able to send mail and sometimes the mail could not be sent may be coz of some time out or what.
If anyone can give me some sample code for sending attachment using winsock i would be really grateful.
I cant use MAPI coz i dont want to send mail using outlook.
