Visual SourceSafe API

I want to develop my own application which can analyze a Visual SourceSafe repository and calculate metrics particularly LOC (lines of code). I am not interested in purchasing a 3rd party product as I want to do this myself. I've found some documents on SourceSafe Automation but this has no info how I can cacluate LOC. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to do this?
