Charge for pure website design

Hi there,

I am completely out of touch with the new industry standard charges for designing and developing websites! Could someone give me a little guide on these please

Essentially though, I have been asked to just do the "pure" re-design template for the homepage and a sub-page template with navigation... Basically so someone else can take my Photoshop layouts and slice them up and put all the old content into these new designs. So yeah, basically a price for a hopefully good design for someone. And also how much for the same, but if I slice it up and make the homepage html file, as well as slicing the images and creating the standard sub-page html template layout for them to simply copy / paste the content into?

Your help would be ever so much appreciated !!

Depends what kind of (X)HTML you want...

If you want semantic code and all that, then you should produce the document structure first, then design the template and build CSS from it, adding superflouous elements as you go along.

But if you want horrid, non-semantic, bloated, slow, non-standard, non-conformant, non-cross-browser code... then use Photoshop's slicing and Fireworks tables.

If I were given a PSD and told to produce a document from it... I'd for the former and charge around £20-£40 depending on the size of the job... those things don't usually take me more than 2 hours.

Advice on charge for correctly coded html homepage + subpage template

Hi there,

Thank you so much for replying. Can I just pick your brains a bit more... So if I were to design a well designed Homepage design, and a Sub-page design in Photoshop. Then for both of these I produced a correctly coded html template (not using the Photoshop or Imageready's sliced up exported pages...) and produced the css styles for the site, what is the general charge for this?

Your advice is so much appreciated!!

I personally would normally charge anywhere from $25 to $30 per hour for straight graphics and HTML work (no server side code). I'd be interested to know what others are doing.
