CSS drop down menus with top level images?

Can someone send me in the right direction? My website http://www.jalc.org/ has 6 main rollover buttons (i.e. PERFORMANCE, EDUCATION, JAZZ RADIO, SUPPORT JAZZ, VENUES & RENTALS, ABOUT US)

I need to add drop down menus to the existing image mouseover buttons. I don't want to change anything about the image mouseover buttons. If possible I would also like the drop down buttons to be the same color as the top level image mouseover color.

I tried creating CSS drop down menus and was successful but I can get it to work with the mouseovers.

I working example is http://www.safeway.com The top level buttons are images.

Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated. I need to figure this out fast. Thank you.

Example of breakdown...

I was going to dwelve into Suckerfish and Son of Suckerfish, but the site is far too reliant on mashed code, it would be far too much trouble NOT to use Fireworks' or Dreamweaver's "Dropdown Menu Creator" tool, you can't really break the site more than it already is.

1337_d00d - I inherited this website. I wasn't the creator. I am now caught in maintenance and reverse-engineering. Are you saying that since the site is not W3C compliant that I should use either Fireworks' or Dreamweaver's "Dropdown Menu Creator" tool?

I'm saying that it isn't worth bothering trying to implement semantic dropdowns because they may break the site (from all those tables, eeeviill), and that it would just be eaiser (although not correct) to stick with the Dreamweaver Dropdown tool.

Untill you get the opportunity to remake that site, it isn't worth bothering trying to stick to spec, imho. It's too futile.

1337_d00d - understood. Thanks for the advice. I am going to try the Dreamweaver Dropdown tool.
