Hyperlinks in a web page header

I've found plenty of tutorials on how to create a webpage header using photoshop and how to create buttons on the headers for menu items but how do you assign the hyperlinks to them? I know how to assign a hyperlink to a single image but not to a webpage header that may have multiple menu items.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not clear on what you mean. If the "multiple menu items" are separate images, there's no difference. Are you talking about a single image that contains areas that you want to use as hyperlinks? I'm not sure that I would choose to do that, but if you do, then you need to use an IMAGEMAP. Look that up in any HTML reference source. It's rather a lot of trouble to do accurately, though, and you don't have control of the mouse-over or visited properties of a regular link, which is why I wouldn't do it that way.

Thanks for the reply. That's is what I was talking about. What would you suggest I do? I want to create a horizontal menu bar with images instead of using text. What method would you use if not the "IMAGEMAP"?

Thanks!

You should try using individual images for each of your "buttons"

This way you can create a normal version, a roll-over version and an active version, and display them according to the page your are on, or the position of the mouse in relation to the button on the page.

To get started it would be best to "draw" your "nav bar" in your graphics program of choice - personally i use Adobe Fireworks or PhotoShop.

Then you would "cut" that image up into the individual button, and then insert the code to display them into your HTML code in place of the standard text within you link tags.

Hope this helps. If you need further advice, let us know.
