Smile I need strong and constructive critique!

*** FLASH DETECT *** HISTORY BUTTONS *** SHOW MUST GO ON!!! ***

www.melnicomm.com/lab/

It's my V. 3! Launch in january / feb. 2005, I hope:-)
I would like to put my new photos and no more "base pages" like "about" mail form,
bla-bla-bla...

Now, just I need strong and constructive critique about design this first page and something in general.

Thanks!

Here are the VERY first two things I noticed, one was not a deal breaker but the other makes me no want to look at your site...

I'm supposing that it's the flash detect that occurs first. I saw two broken images on my browser before being redirected after about a second. That didn't bother me but it made me wonder, as a visitor to your site, what exactly you wree doing behind the scenes and what information you were gathering... not a deal breaker.

YOUR SITE MAKES ME HAVE TO SCROLL HORIZONTALLY. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine and obviously many many other people according to US Government accessibility and usability guidelines. I agree with this documented observation about users hating to scroll horizontally. IF you have to have your site this wide then at LEAST add a javascript detect on load and resize the window to fit your desired width IF the visitor's screen resolution will support it. You don't want to set an 800x600 resolution window to 1024 wide. That'll make an enemy of someone. IF a visitor can support 1024 then set the width to 1024. You shouldn't assume that people have 1024 though.

Other than those two complains (only the second one bothered me a lot), I like the colors and functionality. I leave your website with 2 questions:

1. When I "Hit the keys", what will they do for me?
2. Is there even a paragraph about what the site is showing me? or anything about you?

Overally very nice!

I like it. colors are a little light and horizontal scrolling was a little frustrating but it works really well. I see you're a Mac guy too?

What about us Linux users?

But yeah.... your site is an example of the few good fully-flash sites in existence

I do trust, however, than you've named all of your keyframe flags and added accessbible text?

Overall, teh whin

(Although I would see about getting the XHTML to validate, m'kay?)

Flash and XHTML don't jive cross-platform yet. There are numerous sites about this. The only workaround for the object tag containing the flash info being compliant is to write the entire tag using Javascript which the W3C won't validate. It's a lame workaround.

You're wrong there, my friend

There is a standards-based approach for inplementing Flash (and other media, such as Shockwave and Quicktime) in a page that works in ALL browsers without:

a) JavaScript
b) <embed>
c) <object cslid="">
d) Breaking standards

"Thats impossible! Even for a computer!"

No so, I say!

Introducing....

*drum roll*

Bingo!

oh I've got that page bookmarked from before. It doesn't work in all browsers on all platforms. I'll see if I can duplicate the problem some time. I obviously changed it to a working piece of code because having the site working was more important. I'll let you know if I get it to work.... or not work rather.
