New Designer, Login help

Hi everyone, im a new webdesigner and I am in the process of making a clan website for gaming and i need a login. I have no clue as to how they work and I was wondering if anyone could teach me (Im not really 100% clueless I know that it has something to do with a server and Forms but thats about it) if you want to see an example of some of my work go to: www.freewebs.com/dm_clan_/

I also use dreamweaver which server model do you use?
there are 2 ways to make a loggin page mabye more, 1. database to keep login info (best)
2. create an application level dictionary (problem if server goes offline all users info goes bye bye)

just checking your site out KEEP SPACES OUT OF FILE NAMES!!!!!

ok, ill keep that in mind, it has caused me a few problems in the past, But I don't really know how a server works at all so if you could explain that to me Id b very thankful. Also I don't think I have a server model considering i dont know what it is.

Easiest fastest to get into and genuine microsoft product!
Using a Access database

My OS is Windows XP Home Edition
My Dreamweaver version is MX (french but I understand both laguages perfectly well so I can translate without a problem

Where are you going to host your site???
Because www.freewebs.com is free service and doesn't support ASP.
Also remove space on file names they will cause you lot's of problems.

Well at this point in time it is on freewebs. Do you know anywhere I can get any free webhosting which can support my needs?

do you have a local intranet running (makes life easier for dreded testing)

MS Access is the easiest

setup a connection in DW DSN or DSN-less (for access) other DB's don't conect by the latter (i think?)!

start a asp page (since we are @ asp free fourms? (why then do they use php?-just a thought))

DW ships with a log user in server behaviour
to insert a user just insert a record into the DB

READ DW's HELP FILES, DOES GIVE A BIT OF INFO (heck i learnt that way) but very very boring!!!

MS? whoa, dont understand exactly all of what you said but it seems to make sense, I looked in depth at fragism and it only supports PHP from what i can see,Freewebs I have no clue, I dont mind moving my site around to get something that will work though, as long as I dont have to pay. and about the intranet... what is that? I know I must sound very noobish and like I know nothing right now but thats because up to date ive only ever made static pages

Please note that ASP, VBScript, and Frontpage Extensions are not supported at all due to their... uhh... colorful security record. CGIs are not allowed due to their obnoxiously high resource usage.
