W3c validator help

Hi everyone, Im a junior back end developer, with some knowledge of front end, I have come aross w3c validator. My home page has about 20 + errors witch is't to bad but top companys like virginmedia.com and facebook.com also have errors. Is the w3c validator all what it is cracked up to be? Should we comply to it as much as posible?
