ok im confused, take a look at this site
www.absolutecross.com its obvious hes made the thing in photoshop, but how has he made the centre as a webpage. e.g hows everything placed so nicely, has he made the whole thing in photoshop, and so the texts are really images, in that case he wouldnt have any way of making his site visible on the internet becasue hes wont have any text. or is he making the whole thing in photoshop and then sliced the middle out, then used it in dreamweaver, i get really confused as how these people makes websites that still have the funcionallity as well as the looks any ideas |

I think watching others trying to figure out how to do something for their first time, without actually knowing much about what they're actually doing is more than a hobby, it's a spectator sport!

do yourself a favour, install FireFox and check out the webdev tools, you'll see that the site has been done using a mixture of tables, css and images

Hi before layers became the in thing in terms of layout and made tables the ultimate evil, for the web standards focus people, some designers did most of the layout in programs like fireworks or photoshop, they design the layout graphics etc on a cavans the same size as the screen size you require, then use the slice tool, to make divide the big image into small sections that make up you images buttons title bar etc, then use the handy export with tables option, that will export your slices inclosed in a not so neat set of nested tables. You can also seleced slices to be html which leaves a nice window where ever you want to add your content when editing in the HTMl editor afterwards.
this is one of the things that made macromedia what it is today, because of the functionality between there programs it make it easy to mocup a design export it in html and edit it full of content without swapping about different programs. Now it is better you do small parts of your web site in this way and then import them in layers, although this is still not good practice it is better than nothing at all. hope that expains you question, sorry if it doesn't
