Adding Domain Admins to be able to access all files and folders

I have a problem. I need to migrate the data off one server onto a new server and to do that I need to give Domain Admins rights to all files and folder. I need to retain security on the files as well. Any ideas how I can do it?

Domain admins should have access by default anyways?!?!
Other then that you need to select domain admins and then something like propogate through child something or other. I forget the term but basically do it at the root of the drive and it will set the permissions beneath every folder

be careful not to remove any persmissions though if you have any set as you may have to go through each folder resetting them :S

The term you are looking for is inherited permissions and you can turn it off. When XP creates a profile on a server for a user by default the permission for the profile is set to non-inherited user only access. So it specifically removes permission for Domain Admins unless you use a util like Hyena where you can set permissions on home drives and add in Domain Admins plus whoever else. I got around the problem by using xcacls.exe so it was all sorted :-) I am left with another problem though which I'll be asking for some help with elsewhere...

Why not log on the machine that has the data on it...
Log in as a local administrator...
Then move the data to your new server via UNC or FTP...?

At the command line if you use XCOPY you can set the /O switch to maintain your security settings (ACL)....

xcopy /O
Copies file ownership and ACL information.

Also if i'm not mistaken once a computer is joined to a domain isn't domain admins added to the local administrator group.
