All user desktop icons

Is there a way to keep students from deleting the all user desktop items? We have many computers with the same configuration but the icons get deleted.

I suggest a nifty program called Fortres101 which you may buy from http://www.fortres.com You can disable many Windows features that will prevent students from tampering with these files.

Best practice for admins is to lock all users down..

I would bet your users have elavated rights on their local machine.

What I reccomend is:

- Right click 'My Computer'
- Select 'Manage'
- Expand 'Computer Management'
- Expand 'System Tools'
- Expand 'Local users and groups'
- Highlight 'Groups'
- To the right double click 'Administrators'
- Highlight unwanted user/s
- Click 'Remove'
- Click ''OK'
- To the right double click 'Power Users'
- Highlight unwanted user/s
- Click 'Remove'
- Click ''OK'

If your users run locally with limited permissions they will only have read access to the all users area.

Note: Make sure when placing mandatory desktop items you place them in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

Same with the start Menu
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

I would also check the ACL on the all users folder.

Also screw buying that fortress program... You will have no need for it....
