CSRSS.exe problem
I am having a problem with the csrss.exe file taking up most of my CPU. The strange part is that it only happens when I move my mouse. I have tried different mice with no luck. I have reloaded my OS (which is Windows XP Sp2)with no luck. Also tried different mouse drivers with no luck either. I have run Spy doctor, Registry booster, and Hijackthis with no luck
. My system is a Pentium 4 2.2 GHz with 1 Gig of ram. NVidia geforce 256meg agp 5700Le. I have posted the Hijackthis Log for anyone to check out. Any help would be GREAT!!! I'm getting to that point where I want to shoot my computer! Just kidding. One thing that I found out about csrss.exe when I first came across it and became suspicious of its presence, was that it handles most of your screen activities. Such as redrawing and that sort of thing. So maybe that's why it probably jumps when you move your mouse.
But, I don't think that you should get 50% or higher spikes unless your running many apps that require it's usage. |

I had a problem with csrss.exe and it took me a while to figure it out.. basically i was running two programmes that conflicted i develop in php and use a programme called xampp when i launched this all was well for a while then my machine would not do anything and the cpu usage on csrss.exe was 100% problem was with my spyware programme i have un-installed the programme now and am using a other one and the problem is fix. So it could be a conflict between two programmes

I uninstalled the Spyware Doctor and i'm still getting the problem. I can have no apps running and still the CSRSS.exe will take up all my cpu when I move the mouse. A reboot of my computer will clear it up for awhile but it comes back to haunt me everytime
. Do you think i might need to uninstall something else that my be causing the problem? What can I post to show that? Thanks for any help.Puzzlemaster |

Csrss.exe is responsible for many of the graphic commands in XP. It shouldn't use much of the CPU. There are however, a number of trojans that use the same process name.
In Task Manager, next to csrss.exe, look at the user name field. Does it say SYSTEM or the currently logged on user. It should be the first, the latter indicates a problem. Try stopping by Trend Micro's House Call and running a full system scan. |
