DHCP Server wont assign IP Address's to my client machine.

Hi all, i just Installed Win 2K3 server, then installed the DHCP server, then the Domain Controler and DNS Server.

but my server wont assign me an IP address to my XP Machine. Keeps saying Aquiring Network Address, then hangs for a while, then goes back to Limited or No Connectivity..

Do you have network connectivity to the server? Either your client can't reach the dhcp server or the dhcp server isn't working properly.

Do you have a router connecting your server to your machines and do you hae a cable modem.? If you do I would first disconnect my cable modem for 10 sec, while that is going on turn off your router. Then reconnect your cable modem after the cablem modem has done its self check test. Then plug the power back into your router and let it run its self test. Then go into cmd and do the ipconfig /all command to show if you have ip address and so on. Then do ipconfig /release once it releases the ip do ipconfig /renew.

If that doesnt work you might have to reconfigure your router. Do you have a static or dynamic ip address?

its a single crossover. no routers or hubs or switches...

set the default gateways to 192.168.0.1, then set the server to 192.168.0.3 and my scope for 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.100

still not working

u sure the crossover cable is a good one?

Why are u not using a hub?

You could try manually assigning the IP address on the windows machine...that might help.

Also check to see if the network connection on the XP machine is bridged. That was causing a prob on a machine i had to sort today. If it is remove it from the bridge and then that should solve it...

Did you authorize the DHCP server in AD? If not it won't assign any addresses.

Sougata, This thread is very old and considering the original poster has not suggested they are still having problems there is no need to revive it.
