File sharing problem

Hi there, i have a problem with file sharing between Win XP and win 2k. The message im getting is \\ranji is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

I get this message as soon as i double click the machine fro the workgroup. The strange thing is.....the win 2k machine can access the xp machine fine but the xp machine cant access the win 2k machine. So i guess that the problem is with the win 2k machine.

cheers guys

Darren

How did you set the permissions on the Win2K machine?

Try using accounts with the same username/password on both computers.

Send a message via AIM to Mike_Patton Send a message via Yahoo to Mike_Patton
- Verify the Share level permissions are correct
- Verify the file level permissions are correct

(You can check the above by right clicking the folder and selecting properties then setting the correct - sharing - security)

I always set the share level permissions to everyone - full control --- this will let everyone in then what you should do is tighten up the security using the Security tab (ACL)

If your set your local adminitrator accounts to be the same password you couold always use the admin shares such as \\servername\c$
