Hard drive swap without reformatting
Can anyone tell me if this is possible. I have 2 hard drives, a 40 gig that came with the PC and a 320 gig i added later. I now have a 120 gig I would like swap in as the main drive. How can i put the XP system on the 120 gig and have the PC come back on like I never removed the 40 gig, Without having to reformat. Thanx All

Hard drive swap without reformatting
when using a pc with 2 drives i tend to have the first drive say ur 40GB containing the OS and Anti Virus/spyware on it and thats about it. also set the users my docs to be located on the second drive. that way the drive won't run out of room. but if u need to do it u could try using something like norton ghost to back up and create an image of the whole drive.

It's kind of extra work, but I've done complete drive swaps without ghost or other apps on systems that have multiple instances of Windows. If you make a 2nd install of windows on your 320gb, and boot into it, and put the new 120gb in as a 3rd hard drive, you can drag & drop the entire contents of the 40gb to the 120gb (make sure explorer is showing hidden and system files). Then shut down, pull the 40gb and put the 120gb in it's place so it gets the same C: drive letter, and it should boot right up.

You can use the sysprep utility that Microsoft provides.
