Help with Drive Mapping

I have a project that has to do with working with MS Access. In order to duplicate the environment that the project will be deployed to, I need map my "n:\" so that it points to folder whose address is "c:\stn". I have never done this before. I tried right clicking on My Computer and clicking on Map Network Drive.... but when I type in "c:/stn" it tells me the network path can not be found. If I choose the browse option, I cant find the folder either. Can anyone help?

You must first share the "C:/stn" folder.

Right-click on it, click sharing and security, click the sharing tab, then click the radio button next to "share this folder". Change any other additional settings you deem necessary. After you do all this, click OK. Now, that folder will appear under your computer name when you click browse. It will be something like this:

+ Entire Network
+ Microsoft Windows Network
+ computername
+ stn

Hope this helps.

I managed to get it pointed correctly by making the destination address: \\computername\c$\stn

Now I can open most of the files. There is another problem though.....When I try to open up some of the reports in Access, even in Design View, it gives me an error message "you must install a printer before you print." Does anyone know what is up with that?

I'll take a wild guess that maybe you don't have any printers installed on your computer?

The output of a Report in Access is formatted for the default printer. Without a printer installed the formatting code has nowhere to go. That's my guess, anyway.

You're exactly right. It works with the local printer driver.

If you don't plan on installing a printer, try installing a virtual printer like an Adobe PDF writer or PS printer instead. That should eliminate the error by giving Windows a default printer.
