how to become member of Administrators group on windows vista
Hi,
I am trying to install visual studio 2005 on windows vista but it gives me an error and then i had to download service pack 1 but while i was downloading it i get another error which speaks about patch but doesnt tell you how to proceed. here is what i found out on the web http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vs2005/aa964140.aspx * Run Visual Studio with elevated administrator permissions * Be a member of the "Administrators" group on the local machine * Right-click the Visual Studio icon and select the "Run as administrator" option from the context menu i am stuck on the second point because i have never used windows vista earlier it says be a member of the administrators group on the local machine. Can someone tell me how to do it Thank you, Todd |

Yes you can.
What you can't do is install IIS on this version. Before you install it, make sure you have the latest windows updates.

I have Visual Studio installed on Vista and don't have any problems.
What updates do you need? Just do your windows updates, that's all. If you already have Visual Web developer installed, you can easily install VS So you don't have an actual installation dvd? Have you tried to download the demo from microsoft website and try and install that? |

I would just unistall it all together.
Sometimes half way installations may leave unwanted stuff, so avoid this and uninstall and try the installation over again |

thank you so much for your guidance. The windows update is going on its creating a restore point. After that i will just reboot the laptop and then uninstall the whole thing and start once over.
Its going to take some time to uninstall so lets see if things go smooth for me i will keep you posted once i uninstall and start installing again todd |
