Smile Installing Operating system from another drive

I am currently using windows XP.
I have been given a project to install OS without using cd. We all know that the solution is to use USB. But my professor wants me to copy the OS into a drive(say, D drive or E drive) and then install ask the computer to boot from that drive so that we can install it.

Can you tell me what are the booting required files to do the job. If possible can you please give me a step by step procedure.

There's a few ways to this, but let's look at an easy method:

2 hard drive method. Primary HDD has no partition, Secondary HDD has an XP boot setup partition, and also on this drive will be the XP setup files. When the primary has no partition, it will boot from the secondary, setup will run, and you can then partition the main drive.

That's the basics, I'm afraid I can't give you a step-by-step, as this is homework.
