Hi all,
Is it possible to install Windows 2K Server operating system on a Remote Desktop using my Laptop? When I connect to the Remote Desktop, I am unable to see the bootable CD of Windows 2K Server. (Obvisously because the CD is in my laptop's CD ROM.) I am wondering how can this be done. Could you please suggest me the ways to get this done. I dont have PHYSICAL access to the Remote Desktop. I can just connect to it using my laptop. Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks. |

It is possible to perform a remote installation from your CD-ROM (I performed a few, but with much smaller software applications) as long as you have administrator access from the machine you're installing on. I honestly can't recommend you do so unless you're connected to a T1 or more and even then, reading from your CD-ROM would take a long time.
Plus you must consider the fact that if you don't have an auto-answer file created for the setup, there's no way you can perform this as you will not be able to be connected while it's performing the installation. And if accessing from a CD-ROM on your computer and not connected to the client when it reboots (which is typical during Windows installation), then it won't be able to read files of your disk. There may be some software available for this. Windows Server has Remote Installation Service, but I think you have to be a member of the domain to use this feature.
