Try new cables.

make sure you are using a crossover cable and not just a regular (straight) network cable. A hub usually performs what is called the "crossover" function when tranfering data between PCs. In this case, when there is not a hub, the cable must perform this. Same kind of cable (CAT5), different wiring. Word up.

If the following conditions are met:
a) Cable is plugged in at both ends b) The "Connection Established" light on both NICs/hubs are active c) You are using a patch cable between a hub/switch and an NIC or crossover between two NICs d) The drivers are WHQL certified e) It says "Media Disconnected" Then 90% of the time you have a faulty NIC, return to where you got it from and demand a replacement or refund. I trust you are using either Linksys, Netgear, or D-Link, anyone else is just not reputable. |

actually 90% of the time you have corrupted your winsock and tcp/ip this is software that you can fix easily enough in windows xp SP2. just type "netsh winsock reset" from the command line. |
