networking helllllll
have connected 2 pc's via rj45 crossover, wizard kicks in and the wizard is run on both pc's. icons appear in the toolbar saying 100mbps and 10mbps, but cannot 'see' the other pc. My computer/system/network tells me the cards are fine. If i try and map drives via explorer, the other pc is not seen. have tyied changing tcp/ip address to 10.10.30.01 and 02 but to no avail.
Am sure the problem is really simple. |

Take the following steps. You dont say what your os but the yare all basicly the same.
On pc one set the ip to 10.0.0.1 subnett to 255.255.255.0 set pc two to 10.0.0.2 subnett 255.255.255.0 You must have MS file sharing added to the network card and set to share. Reboot both pc's from pc one at a dos cmd within windows type ping 10.0.0.2 you should get a reply from pc two you should be able to type ping 10.0.0.1 and get a reply. Now to share you need to create a share on each pc by right clicking in filemanager on a directory and choose share you should now be able to see the share. Depending on your o/s you can connect to default admins shares which are hidden by typing. net use p: \\pcname\c$ this will map the c drive as drive p. The key thing with this is you need to log on to each pc with the same username and password. You can do it with any name password but it gets complicated if you do |

If you are using win2k..that was already sharing you drive
automatic..if using others OS, then you need sharing file first, then others pc just can connect. |

since you have auto configured both Network cards I believe, both of your pcs tell you that they are detecting as 10mbps and 100 mbps. respectively.
if i understand your situation correctly, you need to check your pc see if your network card is only 10BaseT type. If it is a 10/100 type, then you need to change the network cable which might be a cat3 and makes your network card configures as 10 mbps. after both pcs has same 100 mbps throughput, then you should have no problem making sessions. gl. |
