New computer and the OS.
Okay,
So I'm building myself a new computer, and I'm gonna put XP on it until Vista has its kinks worked out (or the majority of them). I have Win. XP Home, (Upgrade version) on my current computer. Is there a way I can get the same copy of Win. XP Home Upgrade onto a fresh HDD, and still keep the current computer on the same OS? Keeping the old HDD with the old computer, and allowing it to run just the same? (I'm giving it to my sister) I just dont want to spend so much money on something I could just copy from another computer (if possible) |

There is a way, but it is illegal to install a copy of Windows on another computer without buying another license. But for educational purposes, if you were to get a hold of some hard disk imaging software, you could copy the contents of one hard disk and image it onto the other hard disk. Many companies use this technique to either restore their computers to original settings or to make it easier to install.

Wait... Don't the boxed versions carry multi-user licenses?

you can purchase multi-user licenses, the product you pull off the shelf at a retail chain is a single-user license (meaning one install on one computer) |

Normally you can get OEM version with purchase of a harddisk...
