POP3 server timed out, Error: 0x800CCC19

Hi all,

I have an Exchange Server 5.5 running on Windows NT 4.0, I'm presenting problem with remote users that suddenly can't get theirs emails, the Outlook is showing up this message.

I'm running:

- Exchange Server 5.5 on Windows NT 4.0
- Windows 2000 Server as gateway with WinRoute as firewall, mapping the ports 25 and 110 to the Exchange Server.

Any suggestion or any idea???

Thanks.

I don't know what your problem may be, but I doubt it's related to IIS.

more details

Let me give you more details, as I told you the problem is with the remote users, they sometimes can download their email, sometimes they can't, or simply they start to download and after four or five emails downloaded it get stuck and after 60 seconds is shows me the error: POP3 Server times out after 60 seconds Error: 0x800CCC19. Now, if I try to do the same thing with the same user not remotely but locally it works, I'm thinking that maybe the problem is with the firewall, I don't know. It was working perfectly, and suddenly it didn't work any more...

Unhappy Same problem... 0x800ccc19

I have what seems to be exactly the same problem. I have an environment that was working fine for months than without rhyme or reason windows email clients will hang with the timeout error 0x800ccc19. I doubt the problem is a MS bug as I have been able to duplicate the hang using telnet.... It seems to occur most prevelantly on an incoming email that has an Excel attachment. I created an Excel spreadsheet with AAA in Cell A1, saved and sent it to an email address. Trying to retrieve that email and it hangs.

Now if I go home and connect to my pop server via a different ISP (Rogers instead of Look Communications - I have NO PROBLEM). I am completely baffled.... If I attach my home XP to a VPN at my office I can duplicate the problem my pop windows email clients hang (OE, Outlook EVEN Thunderbird, and even telnet).

I have tried almost everything suggested on Google MTU settings and other things....

Any hints how to solve this hang during pop3 message retrieval would be HUGELY appreciated.

How this thread got into an ASP forum site is beyond me, I am just adding to it.

None of this has anything to do with IIS, so I'm moving to the Windows forum.

Error 0x800CCC19 resolution

I hope that this works for you guys. I have had this problem twice, the first time it fixed it without any real difficulty, this time however I'm stuck. The issue is probably with MTU (Maximum Transmitable Units). What is most likely the cause for this is that you have a very large file you are trying to recieve, but your MTU's are set too low and causing Outlook to Timeout when receiving files. From what I have read about this, the large file acts like a cork, not allowing anything lese to comething and making everything backup. I currently have 22 messages I am trying to receive but outlook stops at number 6 because its so large. As I said before the first time the fix worked fine, however this time im out of luck. If the file is so large that tis fix doesnt work, which is my case I'm out of answers. The link below is from Linksys, it is easy to follow and will tell you how to either set or increase your MTU's.

Good luck and if you stubble across whats going on with my setup let me know too.

Send a message via AIM to MSTRBD Send a message via MSN to MSTRBD
Solution

1.- if ur using outlook express, install the internet explorer SP1, from Here
2.- disable the "scan email" option from whatever antivirus software u have (the most common on this issue are Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security, McAfee and Panda)
3.- optimize ur MTU setting, get TCP Optimizer from Here , select ur bandwith, click the PPPoE box if u have a username and password from ur ISP.

apply and reboot, thank you, come again.
