Printer problem for windows xp home

Hi guys,

At my work place we have windows xp home computer with service pack 2.

Because of we do not have the server system yet, I decided to put all the computers in the same workgroup and give them static IP. After doing the changes, the xp home computer was unable to reach to a printer which was connected to vista computer. When it tries to reach it pops up a log in windows. Even though I supply the necessary username and password it locks the printer and nobody uses it even the owner until the owner restarts the vista computer.

I should say that from the other computers i.e windows xp pro, I can easily reach the vista printer and locate it without problem.

I hope you should guide me what would be the possible reasons

thanx in advance
deniz

On the local computer where the printer is, right click the printer and share it. Remember the IP of the computer it's on, and name the printer something simple that you can remember. Then, on the other computers, you go to add printer, choose network printer, then choose connect to:
in my example it would be: \\192.168.1.115\myprinter
Here's a video:

The next video is how you hook into a printer with a jet direct card or the like:

Thanx for the info sbenj69, but what I do not understand is that from the other win xp home computers, I am able to connect to vista computer without any problem. I set up a password for vista computer. Also printer sharing is on and password protected sharing is off.
