Sharing a scanner in Win XP?
Hi experts,
According to Microsoft, unlike printers, scanners cannot be shared over the network. Ref: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304097 Does this means that there isn't any other way out? (I'm currently using a HP ScanJet.) I also found that there are some softwares that specifically allow scanners to be shared over the network. Do you have any technical experiences in this matter? Thank you! |

I'm trying to figure out why you'd want to share a scanner anyway, since typically a scanner has one operator who need to be physically near the scanner and the software using the scanner. Perhaps there could be some use for sharing a scanner with an ADF attachment, I guess, but the usefullness of sharing a scanner device kind of escapes me

If the desks are close enough i tink it could be useful, in my office tehre is a scanner is on one desk but the desks are close enough to pass things over so someone could put something in the scanner for me without me having to take over their machine! So there are uses, but i would agree that it is not common!
