Shut Down error message
Hi guys,
\ I've just swapped out my video card for a Palit 9800GTX and have started getting the following on computer shut down. An error message box highlighting the file "dw15.exe - dll application." The message says " The application failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down". After a few seconds, another message box appears behind the first. This an end program box, and is ending the program "point32.exe" An internet search has shown me the dw15.exe is a Microsoft reporting file, and the point32 file has something to do with my Microsoft Intellimouse. However, I can't for the life of me see how swapping the vidoe card should cause these to be thrown up. I've fired off an e-mail to Palit, but not received a response to date. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?? Ron |

About Dw15.exe
DW15.exe is found in both C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player.
Also Dw15.exe is the online Dr Watson error reporting tool. It is the tool that will send error information to Microsoft that can help you identify what caused the problem. If you are running Windows XP you can disable this by going to System Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click Error Reporting. You can also try to rename the file to see if it helps. For IE6 issues use: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser Hope the info helps!.... I am not sure about point32.exe! Steve Last edited by jmurrayhead : July 25th, 2008 at 08:50 AM. Steve,
Many thanks for your reply. I've managed to get around the problem by opening up the configuration utility and disabling "point32.exe" in the startup section. I believe this has something to do with my mouse, but disabling it doesn't seem to have done any harm. All is now well. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond. Ron |

More than likely, a fault in the mouse driver is causing Windows to launch Dr. Watson. For some reason, DW is having problems. I seem to recall seeing a Knowledgebase Article for this.
