Simple fix?
I don't usually try this so, I'm guessing that it's something that's different between my last computer and this new one. When I try to access my sites through the browser (IE 6.0 and Windows XP Pro) using the ftp://ftp.mydomain.com address, it doesn't allow me to access the site. Since it worked way back when, I was hoping it's as easy as enabling something. Any ideas? Under Tools, and Internet options, the option to "Enable folder view for FTP sites" is checked.
??? Thanks -Jim |

you have to set and Start FTP server on your web server, apart of the IIS - you can Start and configure such FTP server via the Microsoft Management Console.

I may be wrong, but I thought with a security update the ability to browse FTP sites from IE was disabled.

oh, I wasn't aware of that. if so, that's not server issue as I thought. anyways, you have many free programs for browsing FTP sites, e.g. AceFTP, FlashXP and much more. browsing FTP sites from within IE was never good idea in my opinion.

The vulnerability is detailed here: http://simon.incutio.com/archive/2003/12/09/nastyBug. The fix that was produced meant that you can't include usernames in the address bar, which you'd normally use for FTP access. So things like ftp://username@mydomain.com won't work any more. There are more details here.

Thanks everyone, that's actually how I got it to work. I put in the username and not the password, was then prompted for the password, and got in. I don't plan on using this often, just the few times I'm not at my PC. -Jim |
