Slow windows load after fresh install

i have just re formatted and installed windows xp fresh as i have done many times before. but i am having a problem when it gets to the windows screen with the counter, it takes between 12-18 passes on the bar. it is far to long for a fresh windows as my pc was only taking 3-4 passes to start before i reinstalled. can anyone help please

I doubt it's an overheating problem, but it wouldn't hurt to check the system temp.

It could be a failing hard drive, run some diagnostics.

It could be driver issues.

It could be failing memory.

It could be a BIOS setting

How does the system run once Windows is loaded?

What is your system specs?

What diagnostics have you ran thus far?

I'm leaning towards driver issues, such as initializing sound, network, video, etc. etc.

Unfortunately, the portion of the boot that you are describing, could mean a number of things.
