Symantec AntiVirus command line switch
Anybody know what the command line switch is to have Symantec AntiVirus scan files while using AIM or Yahoo! Messenger? I've been looking all over but can't seem to find the switch that will activate it.
Thanks

hmmm... i think you mean the run the executble ? using that option in those messengers which allows you to specify the name of your Av suite to use ?
never used it but i can give you the low down on how to run Nort0on from the command line / run prompt in windows. I'm sure that with a little hunting around you can figure out what you need ![]() The Norton Av has a command line exe NAVC. Actually I think just specifying this and the path to it would eb enough. Dont think you'd need switches but below i listed all the switches I know NAVC pathname [options] pathname Drive, directory, file, or combination of items separated by spaces. /? Display the help screen. /A Scan all drives (A: and B: are skipped). /L Scan local drives (A: and B: are skipped). /B[+|-] Enable or disable scanning of boot records. If /B[+|-] is omitted, /B+ is the default. /BOOT Scan only the boot sectors of specified drives. /M[+|-] Enable or disable scanning of memory. If /M[+|-] is omitted, /M+ is the default. /MEM Scan only memory. /S[+|-] Enable or disable scanning subdirectories. If /S[+|-] is omitted, /S- is the default. /REPAIR Repair infected files automatically. /DELETE Delete infected files automatically. /HALT Halt the system if a virus is found. /CFG:[directory] Specify the directory containing NAVC configuration files. /LOG:file Create and log to the specified file. /APPENDLOG:file Append to an existing log file. /DOALLFILES Scan all files, not just executables. /ZIPS Scan files contained in compressed files. /NOBEEP Run silently (no beeps). /HELPERROR List possible DOS errorlevels returned by NAVC. If desired, you can run NAVC from a batch file and process the errorlevel with IF ERRORLEVEL constructions. But dont know why you'd need these switches.. just specify the path to NAVC and that should be good enough.

NAVC isn't part of this version, I have found something that might work, I will give it a try. I tried just the path before and all it does is open the main window of the antivirus program, doesn't actually scan the file I'm trying to download. I guess I will just have to research more on this. Thanks for you help and suggestion!

In my Norton Systemworks, you can open the online help, and look for Command Line in the index which shows a page with the command line options for the antivirus program.

JMH, as i understand it you are wanting to download a file that you are receiving through an IM. Doesn't Norton detect it if it is a virus and you start downloading it? AVG once picked up a file that i started downloading through MSN and told me it was a virus !!
IF i have missed the point i will shut up ![]()

@Rfrog : that will ahppen only if you have the Real Time protect of Av suites running running. i personally disable AV real time protects because they slow down my pc, and I need the performance..

That's a good point, and the real time protect of Symantec CE doesn't slow down my pc at all...perhaps it does on the other versions, but definately not this one. |
