task manager not working

Everytime I use ctrl+alt+del the task manager flashes for a second then disappears and then a green graphic appears in the taskbar. Anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?

The green icon is a cpu usage graph. If you doubleclick that icon does your taskmanager window appear? If so take a look in the view menu of the taskmanager, perhaps you have it in some kind of auto minimize mode.

if you wish to see a static list of the processes running on your system, go to the cmd prompt and use the tasklist command

run>cmd>tasklist
