I just use windows explorer and drag the cd contents to a folder on the disk.

It may be better to use a W95 CD as a drink coaster though

after you drop in the cd and close the intro screen go to my computer, right click the cd drive and select copy, then go to where you want to put it, right click and paste.

get to a C:\

mkdir win95

c:\ cd d:

d:\cd win95

copy *.* c:\win95

This will copy all of the files you need from the cd to a directory called win95 on you c:\ drive.

When you want to install win95 do this

c:\ cd win95

c:\win95> setup (and hit the enter key)

This will install winb95 onto the hard disk. This is the best way as you will not have to find the cd when you want to install say a new printer, the os will find the directory win95 and install the files from there.

After you have done all this and it works get rid of it and at least go to win98 or win2000.

If you copy or xcopy in DOS you'll lose long filenames.

I don't have a copy of win95 anymore, but I have a copy of win98 and I just copied the directory win98 from the cd (from the dos prompt) to my hard disk no problems same files. I have not checked every file in the directory win98 (on win98 cd) but most are 8 characters long or less. All the cab files are e.g win98_56.

I would never copy the full cd just the directory win98 or win95 the rest is not necessary.

Regards,

cool thanks. I know with win95 the folder win95 contains the cabs and setup files. What else is really contained on the cd.

As I said in my previous post I don't own a copy of Win95 - my old copied have been filed in the rubbish tip.

From memory (same with Win98) just a lot of MS self-promotion.

Just copy it over like I suggested, install it, have fun and then when you can; replace it with either 98 or 2000.

Good Luck

Remove win95 Install Win98

geejustcurious,

What do you have on the hard disk now? Do you have any other programs, except Win95. Do you have documents etc that you want to save. Do you have the disk(s) for your programs (Games , MSOffice etc).

There are 2 (at least) way you can go.

1 =Do backup and then format the disk and install fresh.

2= Do a backup and then make change to current Win95, move it and then install win98.

In both cases you will have to then install your programs, with the second one you will not have to restore your documents etc.

Regards,
