Hey everyone, I am new to this forum, just wondering if anyone can help me with this problem, it occurs when trying to install windows 2003. Setup runs, then windows reboots and this error occurs just before it actually loads into windows.
This is the error as it appears... ************************************************** ********* A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF88B663C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) ************************************************** ********* I suspect it could be the current SCSI controller, this is an Adaptec PM2654U2. I'm also not sure whether the mother board is compatible. This is an Intel SE 440 - BX2. I am hoping that someone on here knows what it is that will be incompatible before I go spending money on new bits that I do not need. Thanks very much for your help. Nigel Russell Karus.com |

Not sure about your combination, but according to a book I have, the 7B stop error is due to an inaccessible boot device. It probably means that the computer cannot locate the system partition. The entries in the boot.ini file probably aren't pointing to the correct partitions. You could try booting from the Windows XP CD, log on to the Recovery Console and use the Bootcfg command to scan for available Windows installations and repair the boot.ini file automatically.

It sounds as though you may not have loaded the appropriate drivers for your scsi controller. This is a pretty common issue. What you need to do is find the correct Windows drivers for your SCSI or RAID controller. Copy these files to the root folder of a floppy drive.
When the Windows 2000/2003 setup process first begins you will see an option appear at the bottom of the screen that says somethign along the lines of "Press F6 if you need to load additional device drivers". Press F6 a few times. A short time later Windows will then ask you to insert the appropriate driver disk for your device. You can only load these drivers from a floppy and they have to be on the root of the floppy or Windows won't see them. If everything goes correctly you will see your SCSI or RAID device listed after it loads the drivers off the floppy. Then the install will continue as normal. Windows includes a few drivers for common scsi controllers, but definitely not all of them. If it doesn't have the correct drivers configured at install it won't be able to "see" your hard drive when Windows takes over operation of the hardware. Hope that helps! Quote:

I'm guessing that what you said is the problem. If it does not work, try formatting the system partition. I found that I had to do this when installing Windows XP otherwise the setup would crash with an error.
