Windows 2003 Server System process
I have a Windows 2003 Server on which the System Process is
going wild and taking up an entire processor core! As you can imagine, this is slowing the server down dramatically and even more importantly is interfering with my folding efforts  I have tried many suggestions from google and have run a full scan with command anti virus (up to date) but the only thing that gets rid of it is a reboot - and that only for a little while. The server is patched and up to date and it is running the following IIS 6.0 Sharepoint Surgemail ISC Bind 9 (DNS Server) Command Antivirus Spam Assassin and that's it! Can anyone point me in the general direction of a cure? TIA.

What happens if you boot into safe mode? Any problems show up with chkdsk? Also you might try ad-aware and/or spybot spyware scans, and rootkit revealer from sysinternals

Have you tried installing Windows defender on this server?

I have heard people talk abt HijackThis, but not sure whether its relevant in this case. Anyway, best of luck
