Windows Media Player v10

I keep getting the following error message when installing Windows Media player 10 for Windows XP SP2. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it like 3 times now and each time I got the .exe from a different site (including Microsoft download sites).

This message appears when trying to open media player once it is installed

"An internal application error has occurred"

Has anybody seen this before? If so, how do I get it working again? (Without a complee reformat )

thanks in advance:

Filterfann

before trying a re-install, try running this command fromt he Start>run> prompt

"sfc /scannow"

Use without the quotes of course and keep your xp cd handy...
Remember that complete repair installs will also undo all updtaes and patches applied to the system following the original install.

Consider using an alternative to Media Player... winamp is a freely available and powerful software i prefer to use..

Fixed it, here's how

An internal application error has occurred.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if one or more of the Jscript registry key settings are incorrect. This behavior may also occur if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order that they are presented.

Method 1: Reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.

Exclamation Memory Access Violation

I get the following error message when opening (and then debugging) WMP10: "Unhandled exception at 0x37001160 in wmplayer.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x37001160.". I have tried a complete Windows XP reinstall. It worked on my old PC, but not on my new one (AW8-MAX motherboard, P4 3ghz, 1gb Corsair XMS). Windows Media Player V9 works fine. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
EDIT: I have tried reregistering the above DLL's.

Where did you get the download from? Try this one, if you have not already.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/

That type of message occurs when something happened that wasn't supposed to in the code so it threw you a basic exception error. The exe file at the link above is called something like MP10setup.exe. It is quite possible you might have a bad download.

filterfann, yes, I am using SP2. I redownloaded the file and tried again, but to no avail. I have actually reinstalled windows (including a drive format), and that did not work. Before I upgraded my PC, it worked fine (using the same exact copy of Windows XP). I really appreciate the help.

Here's the download for DirectX 9

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en

Direct X didn't even occurr to me. Yea, try that. I guess reading the error message I thought it was just the installation file with the error but I guess DirectX would most likey fix it considering it deals with graphics and media. If it does not work, let us know

I fixed it!!!!! But it was not any of the tips above... I discovered it actually worked in Safe Mode (it didn't before). So I one by one, I disabled every application in Normal Mode until I disabled McAfee VirsusScan. Then, I reinstaleld it and it didn't work. So I tried disabling "Buffer Overflow Protection" and that finally fixed it. Thanks for all of your help!
