Windows Server 2003 Licensing - Per Device VS Per Server
Hi Guys,
I’m quite confused about the licensing options in Windows Server 2003. I have 2 options during setup: - Per Server. Number of concurrent connections: XX - Per Device or Per User. Now, I know what the Per User license type is, and I know what the Per Device license type is. But surely Per Device is the same as Per Server, so why is it a separate option? Also, it appears that Windows is referring to Per Device and Per User as the same type of license, but aren't they completely different? If someone could clear this up, I would be very grateful! I can’t find anything about it on the internet; only explanations on what Per Device and Per User licensing is.

![]() There is a page on the microsoft site that explains w2003 licensing. I doubt anyone fully understands MS licensing, but don't forget to consider Terminal Server users and other access methodology when you're trying to figure it out.

"I doubt anyone fully understands MS licensing" - Haha!
I will have another look on Google and Microsoft. The only problem is that whenever I search for w2003 licensing, I just get results about Terminal Services licensing (which isn't what I want). I'm sure I'll find it eventually. |
