XP limited account and MS Word problem
In my XP Home Edition at home, I created limited account
for the other family members. When they log in and start Word, Windows Installer pop up and load forever, until canceled. They can create documents and view documents from the local computer though. The problem is, they can't view Word files attached within emails. For example using Outlook, the file appears to be attached just fine but when trying to Open the attachment, error message appear saying "can't find the file C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\..." Looks like this has to do with permissions, but I could not find the root of this behavior. If anyone faced such thing and solved it, or can shed some light, I would be most grateful. ![]() |

Hmm..never seen that one before. Have you tried the "Detect and Repair" option from the Help menu? No guarantees but it often helps by repairing corrupt files and such. JMH

have you tried changing their account to an admin account and trying the same things. just to make sure that the software is installed correctly on their username...

I believe that would have "solved" the problem, but I have
already installed Office2007 instead and now everything is working fine. ![]() |

thanks Doug, however I couldn't open the word attachment
even from web mail such as gmail when clicking the download then choosing Open. maybe I should have told that before. more details, just for the sake of understanding what went wrong: when I saved attached word file to the disk then opened the file from the disk, Word was opened, loaded for long time then showed me blank document. when doing this from administrator account all worked well. as I told in the beginning, it only went wrong in limited account on the same computer. Word files that were created by Word itself could be opened fine. |

For the sake of our Google friends, here's the proper methods of fixing the popup problem.
To stop the Windows Installer popup when launching Microsoft Word on a limited account, run the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, select the application which pops up with the Windows Installer, and click Remove. This DOES NOT remove the program, only the leftovers of the installer. Windows Installer Clean Up Utililty
