VBScript - Check User Permissions on Share Directory

Is there a way to check if a particular windows user has access to a specific directory on a network share? I need to be able to pass a user name and directory and return a true/false value. I've been playing with various codes that I have found on the internet and none seem to do what I need it to do.

Or is there a way to capture the Windows "Access denied" error that displays when a user clicks a directory they don't have access to?

Thanks for any info anyone can shed on this.
