Adding Machine to WRT54G router
I am trying to add a machine to my linksys wrt54g router. it is a macbook pro. i have added two others before but since forgotten the process. I have it set to allow only those machines in my MAC address list.
this is what i have done so far: 1. gone on my base machine to linksys router home 2. gone to status -> router 3. copied MAC address 4. gone to wireless -> wireless MAC filter -> edit mac filter address 5. pasted in MAC address from 2 6. save 7. gone to wireless -> wireless security 8. copied key 1 9. gone to my macbook pro 10. typed in exactly key 1 11. clicked ok the following message comes up: The selected network uses and Access Control List to restrict access adn this computer is not on the list. See the Adminstrator for access So how do I add this macbook pro to the Access List? Thanks for the help. |

This sounds to me like a Linksys router configuration issue. Unfortunately I don't know that wifi router so I won't be of any help.

Wait, you copied the MAC address of the router and put it into the Edit MAC Filter address? You need to get the MAC address of the wireless card for the Apple and put THAT into the Edit MAC Filter Address list. To get the MAC address of your wireless card: From the dock, select "System Preferences". Select the "Network" Pane With the TCP/IP tab selected, the number next to Wireless Ethernet Address (or something similar) is you MAC addres. Keep in mind that your computer probably has at least 2 MAC addresses. One for the regular NIC and one for the Wireless NIC. |

Pryach is right on the money. That's exactly what I was going to say.
Btw, I own a WRT54G. Great router. And packs really nice features for the price. It's a great value.

My next-door neighbor of many years just moved last week, and on the way out he handed me a brand-new WRT54GS router and said "Here, take this, I don't have time for this stuff"
